» In February 1850, Bratislava was hit by a great ice flood. Water and chunks of iceberg poured into the city and flooded the Old Town. The level of Danube rose by five meters and in Petržalka, you could barely see the roofs of the houses. To commemorate the event, there are water lines dotted around city showing the height of the water and the date. You can see on the building of the Town Hall (although that one is slightly damaged), on the side of Primate’s Palace, on the corner of Laurinská and Uršulínska, on Laurinská, near the newsagents (opposite Coffee&Co) and in the courtyard of the Slovak National Gallery, near the entrance to the Water Barracks.«
